Shape the Ponytail

There are many ways to shape a ponytail. By using several ponytail holders, you can create a bubble pony that can look amazing for any occasion. Mix it with braids, in strands on the sides or directly the ponytail.

What is the single most important thing I can do to keep my hair from breaking off?!?

My hair is long, about down to my waist. I don't OVER wash it; about 5 days out of 7. I don't blow dry it at all. It's not permed. I don't use a bunch of products on it. I JUST wash and condition it! I always use a leave in detangler/conditioner in addition to the conditioner I use after the shampoo. I use a soft brush or a wide toothed pick to GENTLY comb it out. I might brush it once more during the course of the day and that's it. It is towel dried before I comb it so it's still very damp.

I know it's going to break off some, especially since it's so long but holy cow! I get a LOT of breakage!

Would a pony tail help to protect it a little? How about braids? When I do any of these things I'm sure to use the holders that aren't held together by metal clasps or anything.

Can you see anything that I'm doing wrong or NOT doing? Have you any advice to give me?

Its simply because its so long and dont worry you are doing everything right. You have to remember your hair is dead, like a fingernail. No matter how careful you are if it gets too long it will start to break off. You need trims at least every 6 weeks, hair grows on average a 1/2 inch a month so dont think your taking too much off. And I would sleep in a loose braid so your hair doesnt tangle and get roughed up and try to cut your washings back to at least every other day using a gentle shampoo with conditioners and I would use a deep conditioning treatment every other week. And when you towel dry your hair dont rough it up, just gently squeeze the water out. If you must use a brush, use a natural bristle brush, it better distributes the beneficial natural oils.
